Artists Make Me Laugh!
Artists make me laugh! It is no wonder people think we are eccentric or weird. That is because we are definitely the people who are thinking out of the box. The question ever before us is, "What if I did....." We never stop wondering about possibilities. Creativity is our middle name.
Okay, I confess. I am hooked on YouTube videos on how to make art. Yes, I have been binge watching. I love to watch artists create art and it doesn't matter what medium. I started with cold wax videos because I returned to oil painting. I have never used cold wax as a medium. My friend is using it and making some beautiful paintings. That made me curious. Somehow I got into acrylic artists on You Tube. Some of them pour paint and create beautiful designs! This binge watching was between my plein air painting with soft pastel and after my oil pastel experiment.
I have to laugh at artists because their curiosity and creativity takes them into many different adventures. One artist decided to pour paint onto a canvas that was spinning on a potter's wheel. She was wise to cover the walls of her studio with plastic. A collage artist I know uses Never Dull to alter papers. It is normally used to polish metals. Mixed media artists can have fun with window screens, house gutter covers, sheet rock tape, and plaster. Acrylic artists blow paint around with straws and one artist puts her canvas under water and starts pouring paint onto it.
I admit that I also love to experiment with everything. We live in a great time. There are so many new materials available to artists. However, artists do not seem content to be in the art supply store. Oh no, hardware stores, craft stores and kitchen supply stores are so much fun! Everything is a new tool. What can I do with this? Oh, this has potential! And, your junk mail is now appealing and not just garbage. You might be able to glue it to something.
Where does all of this curiosity lead you? Here is my studio. What a mess! The easels are for soft pastel and oil pastels. One table is for oil and cold wax and another for acrylics. You can't see the drying area.

Let's not talk about my charge card bill. Of course I had to buy acrylic polymers, cold wax for oil paints, Yupo paper, canvases, etc. I don't have enough hours in the day but I do have enough art materials for now.
Of course, I have had some tremendous failures but I also had a couple of good paintings. It was all fun. I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring!
Mostly Suzy, my alternate personality. Sue is taking a break.
