A Random Act of Art

This artwork is a monotype called "It's Rarely Just Black or White." I hope the image and title give you a reason to pause and reflect. This is one of several reasons I decided to do a project called a Random Act of Art. This is not a new concept. Other artists have done Random Acts of Art in different ways. It is a spin off of the Random Acts of Kindness movement. I think we need more art and kindness in this world.

This is how I am doing this project. It is open to anyone on my newsletter list. If a person is interested in participating in a random act, he/she contacts me through my web site: www.sueflanagan.com. The participant receives two small pieces of art, one to keep and one to give away. The one that is given away is put in a public place where it will be found by a stranger. I got this particular method from Nancy Crawford, an amazing encaustic artist. Google her name.
This is "THE Important Question," a mixed media collage.

So, why give away art when artists are trying to make a living and deserve to be compensated? Making a living as an artist is no easy task.
This project is meant to introduce a pleasant, little surprise into someone's day. Who doesn't like to get something free? Hopefully, it will inspire people and uplift their spirits because each piece of art has a message that can be interpreted in several ways. Perhaps it will give people an appreciation for original art. This is also a way to thank those people who have supported me in my artistic endeavors.
Most importantly, art can bridge the great divisions that we have in our world. Art is a common language.

Personally, I want to grow in generosity but the self centered part of me enjoys making these small paintings. They differ in the message, medium, and technique. It is almost like a meditation each time I create one.
This project is limited to November, 2018 if you are interested. Remember to always seek and embrace the good, the true and the beautiful.
Peace to you on this beautiful day,
Sue and Suzy, the artist with the split personality
